Before I start this article I want to make it clear that I am only stating facts and this article is due to a poll that was run in the @DigInDenver Twitter account.

According to 75% of the fans who voted, they rather see Jamal Murray start at point guard over
Emmanuel Mudiay. In my opinion, I would like to see the two young guards start alongside each other. With Mudiay’s athleticism and Murray’s shooting ability the two guards would make a perfect 1-2 punch. Now in the spirit of the poll, lets compare the two young men.
- Jamal Murray is a rookie and is currently 1-year younger than Emmanuel Mudiay.
- Emmanuel Mudiay skipped college and played overseas for a year.
- Jamal Murray has been known for his shooting while Emmanuel Mudiay has been known for his athleticism.
- Both guards are about 6’5″ although Murray weighed in 200 lbs heavier at 200lbs while Mudiay weighed in at 190lbs.
- Both players were drafted 7th overall (Mudiay 2015, Murray 2016).
Now on to the stats. Both players have similar averages (per 36) but Jamal Murray has the upper hand in both field goal percentage and turnovers per game by a whole turnover. Murray shoots better from the 3 point line and from inside the arc. Jamal Murray also shoots better from the free throw line so far this season. Although Jamal Murray has shown that he is willing to try on defense, it comes easier for Mudiay as he has the longer wingspan and is stronger than Murray. Although suggested to be more of a point guard Mudiay is averaging more shots per 36 at 15.1 while Murray is averaging 14.5. Both players are shooting poorly from the field at below 40%.
To back up my claim on Jamal Murray and Emmanuel Mudiay playing together we look at 2-men combinations with Emmanuel Mudiay (has played more minutes than Murray). With Murray Emmanuel Mudiay is a -1.9 while on average for the season Mudiay is a -11.6. The only other player that Mudiay has a better differential with is Nikola Jokic whom is currently the Nuggets most effective player. Jamal Murray on the other hand is a +4 for the season. Jamal Murray seems to make Mudiay better which at the end of the day is what we all want. Murray has shown the ability to play with any player on the court because of his good-to-great court vision with the ball in his hands and with his near perfect slashing ability that also helps get his teammates open.
