Denver Nuggets @ Minnesota Timberwolves
Jameer Nelson– DK:$3600 FD:$3800
Jamal Murray: DK:$3100 FD:$3600
The point guard matchup for tonight’s game is going to include no Emmanuel Mudiay, who is out with a back injury, and no Ricky Rubio, who is away with a personal issue. With both being out it opens up a starting spot for Jameer Nelson and his near minimum price. When Jameer was seeing regular time with the starters earlier in the season he was playing very well, including many games in the mid 20’s. With his price this low you cannot beat that, with an increase in minutes coming he looks like a great value play. With Jameer moving into the starting lineup it also means Jamal Murray will see an increase in floor time as well. We all know Jamal can light it up like very few in the league and his minute increase could mean he see’s mid-20 minutes again. If you are looking for a punt play tonight at Point Guard, Jamal may be your guy.
Gary Harris(Questionable)-DK$4400: FD:$4800
Will Barton– DK:$6500 FD:$5700
In the 3, basically, 4, games Gary Harris has missed Will Barton has gone off. Barton has been doing everything for the Nuggets this last week or so, scoring at a great rate and dishing out a high number of assists. Tonight’s matchup is one of the toughest in the league as high energy guard Zach LaVine will shadow them. Gary Harris is questionable for tonight’s game but if he does play it will cut Barton’s usage a little but it doesn’t mean it isn’t a bad play. As for Gary Harris, his price has dropped to sub $5000, which makes him very intriguing for us DFS players, assuming he sees his regular minutes. Before his injury, he had scored above 20+ DFS points in 5 out of last 7 games and with him coming off an injury his ownage percentage tonight will be low. If you want a great value play for tonight then Barton and Harris may be your guys.
Wilson Chandler– DK:$5900 FD:$5700
Danilo Gallinari– DK:$5700 FD:$5900
The two are playing some really good basketball right now and have been for some time now. While Chandler isn’t lighting it up on the score sheet, he has been doing enough to get to the points needed for DFS. Last night in only 23 minutes he dropped in 18 points, tied for a team high, and snagged 7 rebounds to go with it. I expect tonight’s game to be a lot closer than last nights was, meaning Chandler should see more meaningful minutes. Last time out vs Minnesota, Chandler had 17 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, and 1 game saving block, resulting in a great DFS game. For Danilo Gallinari, a hairstyle change may have sparked his play. Mohawk Gallo has been on a tear ever since he went back to it vs Minnesota on December 28th. Since that day he hasn’t had one game where he has been sub 20 DFS points, including many trips to club 30. I think his story is very similar to Chandlers, I expect both to come out and score the ball well, even with young stud Andrew Wiggins on them at some point.
Kenneth Faried– DK:$5600 FD:$5400
We are witnessing the rebirth of The Manimal and it is awesome. Over the last 4 games for Faried we have seen him go for 24+ DFS games in three of them, including 2 games in the 30’s, Not only is he still the same Faried we know and love, out working and frustrating opponents on the glass, but he’s actually developed a nice little post game. He has a couple go-to moves that have proven to be very effective for him, the little jump hook that he has shown he can make with both the left and right hand. He has shot 71% from the field in 3 out of last 4 games and has flirted with 3 double-doubles in that same time period. I expect another good game for Faried and maybe this time he finally snatches that double-double.
Nikola Jokić– DK-$9100 FD:-$10,200
This is going to be a question I wrestle with every time the Nuggets play, do I want to pay up to play Jokić? The hard part about his price is that no longer can a 20 point 10 rebound night be good enough DFS wise. Jokić can play a great game in real life but if he doesn’t absolutely go off, we can’t get value from him. Of course, he has the ability to go for 50+ points a lot but that is a lot to ask of for a big man, even of Jokić caliber. With that all being said, today’s slate is very small and doesn’t have a ton of stars in it. So paying up for Jokić, who was 2 rebounds shy of a triple-double last time these two teams met, may be a move you have to make. He and Karl-Anthony Towns will be two of the most popular plays today simply because of today’s slate. While Jokić is very expensive and playing him is a hard thing to do, today may be the day you have to, and that is not a bad thing at all.
