In our second meeting of the season, the Nuggets went out to Los Angeles to hopefully go for their fourth win in a row. Instead, they found a disappointing loss in the City of Angels. The Nuggets, who are Jokic-less for their second game in a row, were unable to put the stop to the Lakers guards as they fell 120-116.
The Nuggets started tonights game off slow but ended the first quarter as they tied things up, 30-30. The Nuggets then came back in the second quarter and outscored the Lakers 29-24. At the half, the Nuggets lead the Lakers 59-54. Before tonight, the Nuggets were 15-5 when they lead at the half. The third quarter started off much like the first, the Nuggets looked sluggish and lost their lead as they were outscored 27-17. While our Nuggets attemped to rally, and even regained the lead at a few different points, they were unable to contain the Lakers guards, particularly Nick Young, Lou Williams, and D’Angelo Russell, as they outscored them 40-39.
Our pick and roll defense was atrocious and the defense was just not there tonight and that lack of defense was ultimately the demise for the Nuggets tonight.
Now, the team has to leave the Staples Center and fly back to Denver where they will face the Memphis Grizzlies tomorrow night. When was asked about the quick turnaround time between tonight and tomorrow, this is what Danilo Gallinari had to say:
“We just need to forget about this game and think about the game tomorrow. It’s going to be a different game plan and so we just need to clear everything out, clear our mind and be ready for tomorrow.” -Danilo Gallinari
The Nuggets leave the City of Angels with a record of 21-26 while the Lakers have a big win at home with an overall record of 17-34.
- Wilson Chandler, who hasn’t been very effective the past few games, led the team with 26p/9r/4a.
- Kenneth Faried neared a double-double in the first quarter alone. He ended tonight with 14p/17r/1a.
- Danilo Gallinari and Gary Harris both ended tonight with 17 points.
- Jamal Murray, who did not practice yesterday due to illness, racked up 14p/2r/3a.
