In our third and final matchup of the 16-17 regular season, the Nuggets took off following last nights win against Milwaukee to San Antonio, where they’ll face the Spurs. They arrived in San Antonio around three am.
With leading scorer Danilo Gallinari out with his groin injury and Darrell Arthur out for rest tonight, the Nuggets will look to Wilson Chandler, who started in Gallo’s place Friday night, after he put up 23 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists. They will also continue to look to their returning big man Nikola Jokic for another big game following his first ever career triple-double.
“I hugged him. I was naked and I hugged him. It’s true.” -Nikola Jokic following his receiving of the game ball from his first triple-double.
The Nuggets will have to put a stop to Kahwi Leonard who had 34 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists and Dejounte Murray who had 24 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists in our last meeting. Pau Gasol is questionable for tonights game and “may participate in a game prior to the NBA All-Star break.”
This is the final game of a four game home stand that the Spurs have before leaving on a eight game road trip. For the Nuggets, this is just one of many difficult teams that they will face in the month of February.
The Nuggets are trying to avoid a season series sweep by San Antonio, who has won in their last two meetings. San Antonio beat the Nuggets on January 5th 127-99 here at home and 118-104 on January 19th in San Antonio.

Keys to the game, courtesy of @SeanMEnglish:
- In a January 19th matchup against San Antonio, the Nuggets committed 15 turnovers, while the Spurs only had 7. Take care of the ball, especially against the Spurs.
- The Nuggets were only down one at halftime of the last meeting and then were outscored by ten in the 3rd quarter. Come out of the gates strong.
- Although Jokic will be on a minutes restriction, the Nuggets will one again need a big game out of him. How will he respond after tallying his first career triple-double.
