Before we get to the rankings, we need to go over how we came to our decision. This week, I (@kainzd) am joined by none other than the man, the myth, the legend Rafael Torres (@RafaelTorresNBA) for the rankings. Without further ado, here are Dig In Denver’s Week 16 NBA Power Rankings
**Team records include all games through Monday, February 6th**
1. Golden State Warriors (Last week: 1)
Derek: The Warriors retain the top spot this week. I said this last week, but I still get a kick out of it – did everyone notice what JaVale McGee did to keep things light for the team this past week?
2. San Antonio Spurs (Last week: 2)
Derek: The Spurs keeping doing Spurs things.
4. Houston Rockets (Last week: 4)
Derek: The Rockets are 5-5 in their last 10 games, but James Harden and Co. are still sitting pretty as the 3 seed out West.
5. Boston Celtics (Last week: 5)
Rafael: Isaiah Thomas has been cooking. He looks to be leading the Celtics to a great second half of the season only a couple games back of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
6. Utah Jazz (Last week: 6)
Rafael: The Jazz feature the most effective defensive player in the league and their numbers show it. The Jazz are one player away from making some noise in this years playoffs.
7. Memphis Grizzlies (Last week: 9)
Rafael: The Grizzlies just don’t seem to go away. They play better as the season progresses and their style of play makes it possible for them to beat any team on any given night.
8. Washington Wizards (Last week: 7)
Rafael: The Wizards have picked up their play behind John Wall’s excellent play as of late.
9. Toronto Raptors (Last week: 10)
Derek: The Raptors got back on track in Toronto with a win over the Clippers on Monday night and have now won 2 in a row.
10. Atlanta Hawks (Last week: 8)
Derek: The Hawks got demolished by the Jazz on Monday night, hopefully the continue to struggle vs the Nuggets in Atlanta on Wednesday.
11. Los Angeles Clippers (Last week: 13)
Derek: The Clippers are struggling with consistency at the PG position without Chris Paul. His return can’t come fast enough.
12. Oklahoma City Thunder (Last week: 11)
Rafael: Russell Westbrook is still playing his heart out but the Thunder’s play overall play has taken a huge hit.
13. Indiana Pacers (Last week: 12)
Derek: Paul George and the Pacers beat the Thunder in Indiana on Monday. The Nuggets are now only 6 games back of the Thunder for the 7th seed out West.
14. Denver Nuggets (Last week: 14)
Derek: The Nuggets beat down the Mavericks in Denver on Monday night without Gallinari, Faried, and Mudiay. Will Barton ended the night with 31 points.
15. Chicago Bulls (Last week: 16)
Derek: Dwyane Wade had vintage D-Wade moments in the Bulls game Monday night – they’ll need more of that to remain in playoff contention.
16. Charlotte Hornets (Last week: 15)
Derek: The Hornets have lost 7 straight games and have fallen out of the playoffs in the Eastern conference as the standings currently sit. I think they have more talent than the Pistons and will eventually reclaim the 8th seed, but they need to figure out their identity.
17. Detroit Pistons (Last week: 18)
Derek: The Pistons are keeping pace with the rest of the borderline playoff teams out East – currently sitting in the 8th seed.
19. Milwaukee Bucks (Last week: 21)
Derek: The Bucks won their last game, but are 2-8 in their last 10 and are looking for something to get themselves out of lottery and back into the playoff picture. They currently sit 1 game back of the 8th seeded Pistons.
21. Miami Heat (Last week: 17)
Derek: The Heat are 10-0 in their last 10. I’m not good at math but I think that’s pretty good.
22. Philadelphia 76ers (Last week: 19)
Rafael: The Sixers are trying to find a trade partner for Jahlil Okafor but their play hasn’t improved much.
23. Dallas Mavericks (Last week: 24)
Derek: The Mavs got demolished by the Nuggets in Denver on Monday night. Yogi Ferrell couldn’t recapture the magic that lead the Mavericks to the win in Portland over the weekend.
24. Minnesota Timberwolves (Last week: 23)
Rafael: The Wolves took a huge hit as Zach Lavine went down late last week with an ACL tear.
25. New Orleans Pelicans (Last week: 25)
Derek: The Pelican’s are rumored to be actively engaged in talks to acquire Jahlil Okafor for a playoff push.
26. Sacramento Kings (Last week: 26)
Derek: Reports out today say the Kings aren’t shopping DeMarcus Cousins.
27. Orlando Magic (Last week: 27)
Derek: Serge Ibaka is reportedly on the trade block for the Magic, after being acquired this summer. Do the Magic have a plan?
28. Los Angeles Lakers (Last week: 29)
Rafael: Brandon Ingram has been unleashed and the Lakers look better with him playing comfortably.
29. Phoenix Suns (Last week: 28)
Derek: The Suns haven’t been very consistent this year, as their record shows.
30. Brooklyn Nets (Last week: 30)
Rafael: The Nets are the worst team in the league no doubt about it. The only thing is that they should try to get better as they don’t own their first rounder this year
