What a week of roller coaster of emotions for Nuggets fans. We got to see a back-to-back triple-doubles from The Joker, and two tough losses when Denver has to be in a win now mode. Sit back and relax as I catch you up on anything you missed this week.
February 26: Denver Nuggets vs Memphis Grizzles
This was a pretty tough loss for the Nuggets. Denver, with just coming off a blow out win against the Nets on Friday, was looking to capitalize against a division rival. Denver came out slow in the first quarter only scoring 19, but did keep it a close game for most of the game until the 4th. Sadly the weak point of the Nuggets showed as the defense couldn’t stop Memphis. Zach Randolph bullied his way most of the game in the paint, ending the game with 20 points. It seemed the Nuggets couldn’t find an answer in stopping the big man, plus Mike Conley caught fire late as he scored 13 of his 31 in the 4th.
A bright spot in the night for Denver was Danilo Gallinari, who scored a team high 24 points, and Gary Harris was close behind with 19 points. With the lack of defense, the Nuggets couldn’t keep up with the physical Grizzles with a final score of 105-98. For a full recap of the game click here.
February 28th: Denver Nuggets vs Chicago Bulls
The Bulls, on a 4 game winning streak, played host to the Denver Nuggets. Chicago had a lead for most of the game going into half time and in the 3rd. However with Denver’s high powered offense the Nuggets quickly took over the lead in the 4th.
Now this was a great game for Denver. Everything was clicking for the Nuggets, mostly on the offensive side of the ball, especially for the big man Nikola Jokic who grabbed his third-triple double of the year. The Joker was easily the bright spot for Denver, as he finished with an impressive 19 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 assists on the night. This is what a Nuggets fan wants to see from this team. They snapped a 4 game winning streak from Chicago and pulled away with a 125-107 victory. For a full recap of the game click here.
March 1st: Denver Nuggets vs Milwaukee Bucks
Playing their second game back-to-back on the road, Denver played with a lot of energy against the young Bucks. Nuggets came out to play in the first half scoring 63 points and holding Malwaukee only to 37. It was great to see Denver playing great Defense and showing energy on a back-to-back game. Once again, the spotlight shined bright on Jokic who recorded another triple-double, finishing with 13 points, 14 rebound, and 10 assists. Gallinari had another great scoring night, leading Denver with 22 points for a 110-98 win. For a full recap of the game click here.
March 4th: Denver Nuggets vs Charlotte Hornets
The Nuggets came into this game riding high on a two game winning streak and they were looking to add onto the streak with another W at home. Sadly things didn’t go to plan for Denver, as it seemed the Nuggets couldn’t hit a shot for the first three quarters of the game. Especially in the 3rd when the Nuggets came out flat on both ends of the floor. Once again, The Joker had a great game with 31 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.
The Hornets, ending a long road trip, played physical and with more energy than Denver. However, late in the 4th Denver did make things interesting by only trailing by 4 points but couldn’t find the answers and quickly found themselves in a hole again with a final score of 112-102.
This week had its up and downs as a Nuggets fan, but that’s expected from a young team like Denver. I mean, you can’t be sad with watching how amazing Jokic has been playing these past couple of months.
Next up the Nuggets will be taking on the Kings at home on Monday, March 6th.
