Tonight is the NBA Draft Lottery, which is one of the more important events in the NBA. Consisting of the 14 non-playoff teams, the NBA Draft Lottery utilizes a lottery system (go figure) to determine the order in which teams will make selections for the 2017 NBA Draft on June 22.
Once again, the Denver Nuggets find themselves as participants in the Draft Lottery. Since winning a franchise record 57 games in the 2012-2013 season, they haven’t amassed more than 40 wins in any single season, missing the playoffs in each of those years. If history is any indication, tonight will not be kind to the Nuggets.
According to the official site of the Denver Nuggets, “The Denver Nuggets have previously been involved in the NBA lottery 14 times in the 32 years since the lottery’s inception in 1985. The Nuggets have never ‘moved up’ in the lottery, have ‘dropped down’ eight times and retained their position six times during the annual ping-pong ball drop”.
Obtaining a 0.6% chance of winning the lottery, the Nuggets are projected to select 13th overall in the upcoming draft, and have a 2.2% chance of landing in the top three.
Gary Harris will be in attendance tonight to represent Denver. Tune into ESPN at 6:30 p.m. MDT for Draft Lottery coverage, live from the NY Hilton Midtown in New York City.
