The Denver Nuggets tip off the 2017-18 season in Salt Lake City with a Northwest division showdown against the Utah Jazz
Mile High Basketball is back. The Denver Nuggets will tip off their regular season with a road game against their division rivals, the Utah Jazz. The game will tip off at 7:00pm MT in Vivint Smart Home Arena, Salt Lake City, UT. You can catch it on Altitude TV or NBA League Pass.
Nuggets Head coach Michael Malone has yet to announce his starting point guard, although at this point, most everyone expects to see Jamal Murray out there. The rest of the starters were named weeks ago: Gary Harris-Wilson Chandler-Paul Millsap-Nikola Jokic.
We will get to see Millsap and Jokic in regular season action together for the first time tonight. Fans have salivated at the thought of those two creating magic together on the offensive end and they’ll also get a glimpse of what Millsap can bring to the table defensively.
The Nuggets will hope to minimize Utah’s scoring down low, something they struggled with all preseason long. They’ll also hope to minimize Utah’s possessions by avoiding the turnovers that plagued them all last season.
For Utah, they’ll begin day one of the next chapter of their organization, one that doesn’t include the former face of the franchise, Gordon Hayward. The scoring may be hard to come by for Utah, but they acquired Ricky Rubio over the offseason. They’ll trot out a starting lineup featuring perhaps the best defensive point guard-center pairing in the league now with Rubio and Rudy Gobert.
Denver’s high powered offense will have their work cut out for them with this Utah defense. But the Nuggets have a great opportunity to start the season with a road victory over a division foe.
Will Paul Millsap elevate this team defensively? Will Jokic have his way with Gobert? How will Gary Harris respond to his massive pay day? Stay tuned to Dig In Denver for the postgame coverage. BASKETBALL IS BACK BABY.
