Tonight’s game may have been close, but it was far from pretty. Going up against a team that made it to the Eastern Conference Semifinals last year was a great test for the Nuggets but tonight revealed some of Denver’s biggest flaws. I wouldn’t worry too much as of now because it is still early in the season and the Nuggets are still trying to figure out the scheme of things. The Nuggets are a pass first team but they are not going to win any games with 25 turnovers. I would give them at least a few weeks to tighten their handles and build up their overall offensive IQ to determine the outcome of the season. The West is a difficult conference to compete in and the Nuggets need to start winning some of these early games in order to reach the playoffs like they promised.
On the bright side, Nikola Jokić played like the Serbian sensation tonight almost notching a double-double with 29 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Again, the only disappointment from Jokić’s game were the turnovers. All 9 of them to be exact. It’s not just Jokić but the entire Nuggets’ roster seems to be forcing too many unnecessary passes. Paul Millsap was also close to a double-double with 17 points and 8 rebounds. Emmanuel Mudiay impressed me tonight with 15 points and going 2 of 4 from the three. It seems he is starting to developer a jumper he desperately needed.
Tonight I was disappointed in a few players. Those players being Wilson Chandler and Gary Harris. Chandler hasn’t produced much these past few games and it’s hurting the offense quite a bit. Tonight, Harris only scored 2 points but was able to help the team out by adding 5 rounds and 6 assists. This game was a winnable a game as they’ll come but the turnovers were too costly giving the Nuggets their second loss with a final score of 109-104. This upcoming week the nuggets head to the East Coast for a four game road trip and will return home November 1st to take on the Raptors. Below are some of tonight’s stats.
44 Rebounds 38
27 Assists 24
25 Turnovers 15
48% Field goal % 44%
34% Three point % 30%
78% Free throw % 92%
